Pre-requisite: audition and/or consent of instructor
Format:    every other day, 80 minutes  
Duration:   year long  
Text:  various technique books, selected concert pieces  

CURRICULUM AND OBJECTIVES 
 l
  Improve instrumental skills 
 l
  Develop performance skills and an understanding of the performance process 
 l
  Understand musical theory and vocabulary 
 l
  Develop self-discipline, group responsibility, and cooperation 
 l
  Encourage personal musical insight and communication 
 l
  Enhance critical listening and appreciation 
 l
  Encourage the use of music for the enrichment of life 
 l
  Provide opportunities to enhance self esteem 
 l
 Appreciate musical performances and their cultural connections 
 l  Become aware of vocational and avocational opportunities in music and related fields

CONCERT DATES (mandatory)  
   l Friday, November 22nd:  High School Bands - 7:00 PM 
   l Friday, May 9th - High School Bands - 7:00 PM

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

GRADES will be based on: 
   l concert performance quality and attendance 
   l class participation and effort 
   l technical instrumental progress
   l written and aural quizzes

  CLASSROOM GUIDELINES
   
l bring your instrument, music and a pencil to every class 
   l be warmed-up and prepared for the start of rehearsal 
   l respect your fellow musicians 
   l only use instruments on which you have been approved 
   l communicate with the teacher if you have a special need or problem

Band members will need to have a white dress shirt, black slacks or long skirt, black dress shoes and socks for concert attire. The school will provide blazers and bow ties.

Parents can help their musicians by encouraging them to practice and providing them an opportunity and place to do so.  Practice rooms are available at school and are open before, during, and after school.
