Admissions Guidelines for Applicants with Learning Differences

The following guidelines are used in conjunction with the normal admissions  policies and process to determine acceptance of students exhibiting learning differences who may require support services at ASIJ:

Parents of students exhibiting learning difficulties are requested to contact either the ELC director or the ASIJ Chofu campus Director of Admissions prior to arriving in Japan to determine if a school placement will be possible.
ASIJ may require additional information, documentation, or educational assessments if school records are incomplete or lack sufficient information, before an admissions decision can be finalized. Applications will not be processed without these reports.
Applicants with specific learning needs who are applying to the elementary, middle, or high schools should be able to succeed in the regular curriculum with academic support. Applicants should be able to demonstrate adequate math, reading comprehension, and writing skills in order to benefit from the educational program.
Students entering the high school must be able to succeed with a minimum level of support in a college-preparatory academic program.
Learning support services are reserved for admitted students with a specific documented learning need who have average to superior learning ability and are able to learn in English.
Students participating in support services may be exempt from the Japanese language program and/or other parts of the instructional program.
