Japanese Culture
Curriculum
The ELC is dedicated to helping our children experience and
understand the culture of our host country. Japanese holidays and local customs provide the starting point for
activities that integrate Japanese arts and crafts, songs, food, traditional
clothing, children’s literature, games and toys into the curriculum.
Informal instruction in Japanese language happens regularly in meaningful contexts: in greetings, courtesy, counting, or singing. This is the way children learn and remember language best because it is used in real life situations.
Children gain a sense of the local culture through the experiences of the Japanese Culture Program that runs throughout the year.
Our children are the best cultural bridge for expatriates
living in Tokyo. They will teach
you everything from onigiri to obi, sumo to soba throughout
the year.
