February- Setsubun
Pre-kindergarten and kindergarten classes celebrate Setsubun
in February by wearing their Oni (demon) masks and throwing soy beans
to drive away evil spirits and welcome good fortune.
Art activities may include mask making and math activities may include
bean counting and sorting.
A Japanese Public Holiday in February becomes a day to welcome our Mothers’ and Fathers’ Group. On this day we invite parents to spend the morning with their children at a Taiko Drumming performance. We prepare the children for that day by listening to Taiko Drumming and by making their own drums.
