Fuchu Dai Ichi!

back

Today I went to Fuchu Dai Ichi and I thought the day went well. First, I would like to tell you about what we did at Fuchu Dai Ichi. We went into the gym first and did the opening ceremony. We listened to their speeches, and then they listened to ours. The students from F.D.I. have appealing English accents! Then, we had the principal say a short speech. There was also an English translator. After all the speeches, there was this "Japanese culture dance" that they did for us. It was probably the best dance that fourth graders could do in the whole world! After they finished, (the dance was pretty long) people yelled, "Encore, Encore!" so they had to do the very long dance again! After that, the F.D.I. students gave other short speeches. Next, the sixth graders had a reaaallllllllllllllllllllllly good band that played three fabulous songs for us! They must have worked really hard to get it just right! Then we went into the art room to do arts and crafts. We made these cool things where there is a little box and you poke 2 holes in it and pull string into it, and then you tie the string in a knot, then swing the string around for a while and then pull and the little box will turn into different shapes. Then we went outside to play games like takeuma, which is kind of like stilts, and this other thing, but I forgot what it is called but it is like Japanese ping pong. You use this feather with a ball at the end of it, and you use a decorated paddle, and you play it just like ping-pong. Then it was lunchtime. We drank milk and orange juice. We ate tomato soup with different things in it and this spinach and cream and cheese salad and bread, and this mini-sized, rolled-up pancake with cream inside it, (otherwise known as a crepe.) There was also kiwi. After lunch, we played again in the gym. I played a game called, "tamamawashi". It was quite fun! Then we had the closing ceremony. I gave a speech. Then some other kids gave speeches, and then Mrs. Record and Mrs. Kukuchi gave speeches. It was a sad ending. My favorite thing today was when they did the cultural dance. I liked it the most because they all did it at the same time and they did it very prettily. Also, my buddies were doing the dance and I think that they were the best! (please no hard feelings) I think that when my buddies were the hostesses, they were more polite because when they came to our school, we didn’t really practice our manners. I bet F.D.I. practiced for us! There were also a few things that we did different from F.D.I. What they did different from us was that they decided to play outside and do Japanese culture games, but we just played on the playground. Also, we did some things alike. For example, we both did arts and crafts. I think this experience is going to be something that I will always remember about Japan because I learned about Japanese food, Japanese culture, and Japanese schools.
