How to Water the Lawn by Abbey My Rube Goldberg contraption uses a lot of simple machines to help the Fantasmagorical Lawn Watering Machine work. The machine lets you water the lawn while resting or reading a book. All you need to do is pump your foot. First, your foot pushes on the inclined plane attached to a spring. For every feat there is an equal and opposite reaction so, the spring will go down and bounce back. Second, the wedge will always stay in the same place until it is taken out. The wedge will prevent the inclined plane from tipping too far back. Third, the inclined plane will always be moving up and down because your foot is pumping and because of the spring action. Fourth, the string is connected to the inclined plane and the bucket. The string rides across the pulley and makes the bucket go up. As the foot pushes the spring all the way down, the bucket reaches the top. The pulley will always be rotating. Fifth, the force will stay in balance until the bucket lands on the lever. The lever will balance to the point when the bucket lands on it then it will make the water spill onto the inclined plane. Next, the inclined plane will always stay in the same place. It has a dent in it so the water can flow down the center into the funnel. Sixth, the cup is on one side of another lever and on the other side there is a weight. The lever will not tip until the point at which the cup fills up with water. The cup will tip over and the water will spill out. Next, the screw will stay in the same place, always. The water will go down the sides of the screw then come to another inclined plane. Ninth, this inclined plane will not move. The water will go down the middle and spill into the rolling basket. The basket has holes in it so the water can shoot out. The flying action of the crow will always make the basket roll. Lastly, the crow will pull the basket across lawn so that every part gets watered. "The Fantasmagorical Lawn Watering Machine is Dumbfounding." Page made by Abbey January 19,2004 |
