The purpose of the Book Bingo program is to encourage you to read from a variety of genre.

General Guidelines:

Every time you read a book, have a book talk with mom or dad. Book talk forms can be obtained from Ms. Newman or by printing your own from this link.  Record the book on your grid; Ms. Newman will do the same at school.

You will receive a certificate when you have read 5, 10, 15 and 20 books.  Students who read all twenty-five books will be honored with a gold medal.

Projects:

Three times during the year, you must use a current book to complete the corresponding project that matches the genre of your book. For example, if you have just read a fantasy book then you would complete “tubular tales”. You must do a different project each time. Have a good look through all the projects and perhaps focus on the ones that use your strengths-art, oral language, writing etc.

All projects are due on a Monday and you will be expected to present your book and project to the class one day that week. Briefly summarize your book. Your goal is to tell us what your book is about, not everything that happens in it. After you give us a concise summary, give your opinion of the book. Who would enjoy reading it? Be sure to justify your opinion.

Budgeting your time is important. Reading time will be given in class most days. All other work is to be completed as homework. Your teacher will have a lot of the supplies that you will need for your projects though you will have to find some items at home (ie. shoe boxes for the sports locker or pillows for the Newbery award winning books).

It is expected that the books you choose have never been read to you or by you before. In other words, they should be totally new.

Your book should be an appropriate choice for you. Generally speaking, a book with around ninety pages or more is a good measure. However, length should not be the reason why a book is chosen. For instance, many science non-fiction books are packed full of information but are short. Therefore, if you are interested in learning about meteorology (weather), try to choose two shorter books. One could be about tornadoes and the other about clouds. Both books together fall into the science non-fiction category and would count as one book choice. See your teacher for help, when you need it.

Both Ms. Newman and staff from the library are available to help you make good book choices.
