Henry
Hudson
By: Abby
I studied Henry Hudson. He was born September 12, 1570. He died June 22, 1611 (that was the date he was mutinied, no
one rally knows the real date of his death.) He had a wife name Katherine Hudson there
is no trace of her maiden name.) Together they had 3 sons, John, Oliver, and
Richard. Richard was always
Katherine's favorite. She married Hudson for his money. But then she grew to
love him a little bit. So she sent a rescue crew to look for him when she found
out that Hudson had been mutinied. But there was no trace of him so, Katherine
to all of his money. She took Richard with her. They both succeeded and bought
fine clothing and indigo. Hudson's son John was a crewman on all of Hudson's
expeditions. John was also with Hudson when he was mutinied. John was the most relay able
in the family to Hudson. And then Hudson and Katherine had Oliver. The only
information there is that Oliver wrote stories of his father's voyages. Some of
Hudson's friends were Jondicus Hondious, John Smith, Robert Juet, and Peter
Planicius. Jondicus Hondious also was Hudson's mapmaker. He sailed with Hudson
because he wanted to spread word about his religion. And Jondocus painted a
grand painting of Hudson to put on the boat. John Smith was the founder of a
colony in Virginia. John Smith helped Hudson out by: Telling Hudson about a
passage way by the pacific ocean (didn't help!) John Smith also gave Hudson some
maps and was a semi captain along with Hudson. Peter Planicius was Hudson's
friend as well his navigator. He and Hudson fought over going East or West on a
few of his voyages. And Robert Juet
sailed with Hudson. He was one of Hudson's friends, but he led Hudson's mutiny!
Henry Hudson had 4 ships that he sailed on. The first two voyages he road
on was Goodhope. On his 3rd voyage he road Hopewell. And on his
fourth voyage he road Halfmoon. And
his first voyage was 1607. His second voyage was in 1608. His third voyage was
in 1609. And his last voyage was in 1610. Hudson liked to go on an expedition 1
time a year at least! And now there
are 3 North American water ways named after Hudson: Hudson Bay, Hudson River and
Hudson Straight. He sailed into Hudson Straight for the first time on June 24-25
1610. And that is when they named it after him. Hudson also sailed through the
New York Bay! And of cores Hudson had 4 voyages. Every one of his voyages he was
going to look for the same thing! But
on his first voyage on the Goodhope he only sailed as far as Spittlebug because
his ship got frozen so he had to turn back.
Hudson is now famous for his 4 voyages. And (even though I already
mentioned it) Hudson now has 3 North American waterways named after him: Hudson
Bay, Hudson River, and Hudson Straight. He is also known because his best friend
who was a crewman was in charge of his mutiny! His name was Robert Juet.
Hudson was an English explorer, but he sailed for the Netherlands. The
first time he had his country sponsor him because he loved the adventure. But
the 2 time he sailed for the Dutch. They sent him to try to find a route. And
the 3 time he finally got sponsored by an English company his father had worked
for. They sent him to try to find the same route that the Dutch sent him to
find.
I really admire Henry Hudson. I admire him because stood up for innocent
Indians when the rest of Hudson's crew wanted to kill them for their land and money.
He was a really great explore and a really cool one for that matter! He was a
really positive person. And he set a good example for the world.
He stood up for innocent people when they were mutinying him. And I think
that it is pretty sad because he was the victim of mutiny and he was innocent!
