Research Steps

 

2. Locating
Identifies sources of information in Library and Computer Lab.
Conduct a search for information related to the topic.
Record Bibliographic Information.

Activities

 

· Students will generate a list of places they can find information about their topic: e.g.: home, library, Internet, videos etc.
· Students will select the resources they wish to work with.
· Librarian, computer teacher and homeroom teacher will work together to teach students the skills to use these resources effectively.

Students will keep a log of their resources for a bibliography.

· Web sites: Internet Explorer/ Netscape
· Online Encyclopedias
· E-mail online experts
· List serves
· Discussion groups
· Inspiration/Kidspiration for brainstorming
· Microsoft Word Outliner for brainstorming

Review keyword concept with computer teacher.

Library

Identify key words.
· Search web catalog at home and in class.
· Search library online catalog.
· Non-fiction books
· Encyclopedias and other reference books
