The Fishing Trip
By Robert Finn
There was an outbreak of excitement inside me when my grandfather asked me if I wanted to go fishing later today! I quickly said, “O.K.” So then my grandparents, my 2 sisters that aren’t babies, and I decided to go fishing later that day. But there was only one problem, there were 3 people that wanted to fish and only 2 rods. So we went to Kmart to get another rod, and we also needed new bait. My grandfather is really good at fishing from experience so he was able to choose good bait.
When we got back to my grandparents house, my grandpa let me help him put on the wire string so we would be ready. After that, I played with my cute baby sister. She shot out smiles, laughs and giggles of bliss. My grandpa trusts me and he lets me do stuff that most people wouldn’t let me do (But that’s not always a good thing………. Once my grandpa was the one that taught me how to use a lighter, and my mom wasn’t too happy about that……. He let me watch South Park, not getting any happier. So he’s basically a great grandfather, sort of like a buddy.) , I thought, I can’t wait to go.
Later near 3:00 my sisters and my grandma came home from a real state house my grandma was selling. Then, we started our walk. We decided to take the secret passage way to the bridge. On the way through the passage we got our shoes really muddy, we forgot that it recently rained.
When we got to the bridge we put some hotdog or a fake minnow on our hook, I chose the minnow. Before my grandpa told me that at least all of us (other than my grandma because she isn’t going to fish) are going to catch a least 3 inch fish. Then I lowered the bait into the water and obviously, I got a tug. But I reeled it up and………………………………………nothing. I was so frustrated!!! Then in a nice voice, my grandpa told me what I did wrong, I forgot to pull the rod to hook it in the fish. He waited for me to get it right.
Then, suddenly the last time I got a tug I pulled the rod as hard as I could so I would defiantly get it, then I reeled it so fast, but it felt like it took forever. I was so proud of myself, I caught my first fish!!!!!! But now my grandpa has to get the fish off the hook! I felt like everything stopped. I thought it would never end. He had fish blood all over his hands. I thought the fish would die. I looked the other way and said that I couldn’t look. I sort off wish I didn’t catch the fish. I touched the fish……. It was bloody and gooey. Finger after finger ripping out of the flesh. My grandpa finally got out the hook. He threw it back in the water. It slashed back in to the water like a torpedo. I was so refreshed. It’s still living. Then my little sister got tired so she went home with my grandma. My grandpa used her rod. He caught a bunch of fish.
In an hour or so we started to go home. Are shoes got muddy in the secret passage, again. Then, when we got back I ate dinner, my grandma made her specialty, mashed potatoes with her special secret ingredient; I love them. After I watched T.V. and I went to bed around 10pm with great thoughts in my head of going fishing tomorrow.
