Freaky but not Freaky
By Toshio Shimazaki-Ito
“Last one down turns the lights off guys,” I shouted. Then we were all running out the door so we wouldn’t be last. It was on a warm night at my grandparents’ house. I was thinking about how this night would end. I dashed out the door trying to be first down the stairs. While I was running I thought “Run Toshi run” so I zoomed down the stairs until I got to the bottom. Once I got to the bottom I said “I’m first you guys.” I walked to the carpet beside the dining room a while after I had zoomed down the stairs. I turned around to see the dark dining room just sit there. I looked at the table in the middle and the chairs around it like its subjects. I saw the plant in the back like a soldier in a dark night battle. The color that I mostly saw was black, pitch black darkness. At that very moment I felt like I was just outside a haunted mansion.
A while later I stood on the carpet again. Then I looked at the dining room to see if there were any ghosts. I examined every part of the room like a ghost hunter or a detective. Then at the very moment something appeared.
It was green. They looked like marbles, green marbles with a black dot in the middle. Then I noticed there were two of them so I knew they were eyes right away. Then I saw they were looking at me. At that moment I was already pale white as if I had seen a ghost. Then I thought “Wha wha what is that” I stared at it for a while. Then I shouted “Grandma there’s something in the dining room.” I thought “Awe” and at the same time “Aaaaaaaahhhhhhh” It was awesome, surprising, and a little bit scary. Then my grandma came running out the kitchen door to see what was happening. Then we both saw our great-grandma’s cat Kuro (black). I thought “I’m sure he came in through the open window in our dining room.” A moment after he was out of the pitch black and running to the kitchen door.
When I saw him jump out it gave me the “Oooos” the “Aaahhhs” and the “Eeeeeks.” He looked like number one gangster running away from trouble. His coat shining with the light above. He was dashing without a sound to the nearest door. My pale skin was becoming as white as a ghost.
Once he got to the door that led to the outdoors he jumped out and ran until he was on top of the roof which, for him, was safety. That day I will never forget because it was the freakiest and coolest day in my child hood (4-7 years old). When the cat was gone I was left there hanging I wanted more, it felt awesome. It felt great to be scared at night. When I was scared it froze like 73% of my nerves and my brain. It felt incredibly awesome. I hope it I hope I get scared again at the most unexpected place and time.
