Mount Fuji Climb!

By: Spencer Latimer

This was the day I had been waiting for, I was going to climb Mt. Fuji! I was walking up Mt. Fuji with my friends Jacob and Preston Gagnon. Before climbing Mt. Fuji I bought a walking stick for the climb. At Mt. Fuji is 3,780 meters high. Before we started climbing we thought we could run up 200 meters, when we ran 20 meters we were already way out of breath. When we started climbing the climb up was 6 to 7 hours at a steady pace. First I thought that the climb was going to be easy but when I started climbing I quickly changed my mind about that. It was a pretty darn hard climb!

I walked up the mountain weakly. “Are you tired?” Jacob asked

          “Na” I lied.

We were trying to get to the top of  Mt. Fuji.

          “Are you tired?” I asked.

“Yes, I am pretty tired,” he replied. “Why don’t we take a break at the next station.” he suggested.

“I am fine with anything,” I replied.

“Why don’t we eat at the next station,” Preston suggested.

I got to 3,500 meters high till my friend Jacob got high altitude sickness. High altitude sickness is when you get to high you don’t feel well. Jacob also had to use a lot of oxygen to keep him from passing out.

I got to 8 old station till we had to do down. What I disliked about the stations was that when you thought you were at 8 station you would actually be at 7 old station. When we went down we could kind of “Snowboard on our shoes.” The climb down was 2 to 3 hours long. The climb down was very steep and very difficult because it was all rocky and really sandy with ashes buried under the molten lava. If you fell down you would be bleeding and crying.

We also had to walk through a forest for part of the way up and for part of the way up. Mt. Fuji was a very fun and exciting climb. When I came down I was very tired.

“Are you tired, Spencer?” My Dad asked.

          “Yeah,” I replied.

Then this old lady offered me a glass of water. I was grateful. I thought “Wow this woman is so nice!” Then I bought a little glass souvenir and we left.
