The Plane Tickets

by Andrew Howe

“Andrew get in the car.”

It was time to leave Hawaii. I was going to the airport. I could hear the planes going over me. It was really noisy but not crowded. We had checked in but it took a long time because we had a lot of bags. Then, after we checked in, we had to walk for a long time until we finally got to our gate.

Suddenly, I heard my name: “ANDREW HOWE!” My parents went up to the desk and said, “Why did you call our son’s name?” They said, “Because he won free plane tickets!” My parents jumped up and down and said, “Yippee!” I was confused. They came back over to me and said, “Andrew, you won! YOU WON!” I said, “I won what?” They said, “Free plane tickets!” I was still confused. Would they leave me behind? I started to cry. “Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa…” They said, “Why are you crying?” “Mom and Dad are going on a different plane…” “No, they’re not.” I could not talk through my tears. My mom looked at me and hugged me and said, “Don’t worry, we’re all going on the same plane!” I felt relieved but I learned to never share plane tickets.
