Running with the Wild Dogs
By Oliver Rogers

For my mom and dad.

I am playing as hard as I can. I see an antelope. I howl lowly. Everyone gathers around. Ding, ding, ding…and they’re off. I run as fast as I can. Mom jumps on to the antelope. Dad bites its leg. My friend and I bite the underbelly and pull it to the ground. Then the feast begins. When we get home, the most disgusting thing happened. Dad cacks up some meat to give to my brother. Well, good night.

Hello again. Well, it’s a new day with new adventures. Ahhh! Oh no! Another mom had babies. I hope my mom doesn’t kill its pups then I would have more friends. A-w-o-o-o-o! Gotta go chase some animals. ZOOM! After the hunt, when we were walking home, a hunter shot my mom and dad. He tortured me and poisoned everyone else.

I am Oliver Rogers, the author. Believe it or not, wild dogs weren’t my first idea. Brett Favre was. But then Mr. Laleman, our librarian, showed me a book about African Wild Dogs. I was interested so I did some research and they turned out to be pretty interesting so I decided to write about them.
