A Dream For a Sheppard
by Rikako Kent
Leo Wattson always longed for a big, friendly sheppard. For the 1211th time Leo asked his mother, “Can I have a sheppard?”
His mom said, “Sure, but you have to pay for it.”
“Fine,”sighed Leo. Suddenly he had a wonderful idea. He’d walk his neighbor’s dogs for: $5. So he asked his mother, and his mother said yes! So, he got right to work. He made a sign that said: Dog Walking Service for $5 a Day, Call: 543-449-4712.
He set signs on telephone poles, around the neighborhood. When he got home, he got a phone call.
“Hello?” answered Leo.
“Hello, is this the dog walking service?” asked an old lady.
“Yes,” answered Leo.
“Well, I have a dog and, I can’t walk him that often. Tomorrow at 8’oclock come to 33 Woody Street, please.” said the old lady.
“Then 8’oclock it is,” said Leo. Leo hung up. There was another call. By the end of the day, he had 22 calls.
The next day, he had to walk 5 dogs. He picked up the dogs and walked the 5 dogs at the same time. By the end of the day, he had 25$.
The new dog walking service was a hit! People kept calling; 1 call after another. By the end of the week he had about 200$.
“How much does a Sheppard cost?” Leo asked his mother.
“About 250$,” said his mother.
“Awww, come on! I don’t have enough yet!” complained Leo. He walked to Mrs. Davidson’s house (a customer). He knocked on the door.
“Hello?” answered a lady.
“This is the ‘Dog Walking Service’.” said Leo. Then, a lady opened the door. From inside the house, Leo could hear dogs yelping.
“I have 10 dogs for you to walk and I’m going to the dentist.” said the lady.
“Oh, yeah! Oh, Yeah! I’m getting 50$!” sang Leo.
“Hurry up and walk the dogs if you’re so happy!” demanded the lady.
“Sheesh, lady, I just got here!” whispered Leo. The lady went into her house and got the 10 dogs in a struggle.
“Here you go; this is Coco, Brownie, Sugar, Chocolate, Charlie, Stuart, Suzu, Bruno, Lucky and my favorite one, Willie.” said the lady, pointing to each dog.
“Okay,” said Leo. After thirty minutes, Leo came back to Mrs. Davidson’s house, panting.
“I’m back,” called Leo, in a hoarse voice.
“Good job,” said Mrs. Davidson, opening the door. She gave Leo the 50$. Leo walked home. When he got home, he jumped into the air and yelled,
“I’m going to get a Sheppard!” His mom came out of the kitchen.
“Good for you,” said his mom.
“Can I go to the pet store now?’ asked Leo. His mom nodded her head. Leo grabbed the car keys from his mom and dashed out of the house and into the car. He waited for his mom to come. His mom finally came and got in her seat then she turned on the engine and pulled out of the driveway. Finally, they reached the pet store. As soon as Leo walked into the pet store. He saw a shepperd. Still a puppy, the dog bounded over to him. Leo knew this was the one he wanted. He bought the sheppeard. The supplies were free. Leo’s mom loved that she didn’t have to pay for the supplies. He named the dog Mardi. Mardi and Leo lived a happy life.
