Who can
participate?
Students in grade 3, 4 and 5.
How does it
work?
Students who have written a story submit it to the ES library. A panel of
judges will choose a winner for each category. These winning stories will have
pictures added to them by professional illustrators. The stories and
accompanying pictures will be published in a book. The book will become part of
the ES library collection.
What
kind of stories qualify?
There are 2 categories in which students can submit entries. Click

2010. You can have a look at the
published winning stories in the ES library or online at
Picture Books
Grade 3 category open to grade 3 students only
Grade 4 category open to grade 4 students only
Grade 5 category open to grade 5 students only
Poetry
Open to students in grades 3, 4 and 5. The jury will select will select 3 winning poems from each grade level as well as one "best fourth" making ten winning poems in total.
How long should the stories be?
How many stories can I submit?
How about
spelling and grammar?
You are responsible for editing your story or finding someone to do it for you.
Stories should have no grammatical or spelling errors.
When do I
write these stories?
Anytime! Stories written during your class time or at home qualify.
Do I have to
work alone?
You choose. Stories can be written by one author or be co-written in smaller or
bigger groups.
When does
this happen?
Stories must be handed in no later than February 1, 2011.
How are the
winners selected?
A
jury made up of teachers will read all the stories submitted and select the
winners, one Picture Book per grade and 3 poems per grade as well as a best
fourth.
