Sakura Brainbowl!
Does your team have what it takes to be All Japan Champions?

Do you like to read?    Do you like quiz games?

Do you like to meet students from other schools in Japan?

If you say yes to all these questions, this program is for you!

Who can participate?

Students in grade 4 and 5.

How does it work?

Students form teams of five people.  As a team they will read all the Sakura Medal Chapter Books.  There are 30 books on the list, so each team member will have to read 6 books over the course of 3 months.  Every month, 10 books are selected by the librarians.  At the end of the each of these three months, a quiz game will be held in the library.  The questions for the quiz will be about the ten books on that month’s list.  The teams compete to try and score as many points as possible.  The teams that score most points during the combined three quiz games, will go on to represent your school in an ALL JAPAN SAKURA BRAINBOWL FINAL.

How do I join?

There is a sign up poster in the library.  Sign the names of your five team members and your team name.

I don’t have a team.  Can I still join?

YES!  Sign your name up on the same poster in the library.  We will get you in touch with other kids just like you, who want to participate but don’t have a team yet.

Who can be on my team?

Any grade 4 or 5 student can be in your team.  A great opportunity to hang out with kids from other classes or even grade levels who like to read just like you.

How much will I have to read?

There are 30 books on the list and 5 members in your team, so each member will have to read 6 books.

How much time do I have to read?

The program starts in September, as we launch the Sakura Medal.  There will be a quiz game at the end of every month in the library.  That means you will have to read two books every month, and this three months running.  Not that hard!

How will get my hands on the books?

The people in a Sakura Brainbowl team will have priority access to the 10 books on the Quiz List that month.

When will the quiz games in the library be? When will the ALL JAPAN FINAL QUIZ be?

There will be one at the end of September, one at the end of November and one in the middle of January.  The final will be held in March

What do I have to at these quiz games?

At the quiz games, you will be your team’s ‘Expert’ on two books.  Whenever there is a question about those two books, you will have to try and answer it before any of the experts of the other teams do so.  That way you will help your team score points.

What’s in it for me?

Let’s see, you get to read some great books and be part of a team of kids who love reading.  You will get to play three quiz games in the library in front of many supporting fans, and if you do well enough you may get to travel downtown Tokyo for a chance to compete with students from other schools and win some fabulous prizes.
