PROTECTION:

* If there is no danger the male has nothing more to do. Lions live in prides. (which are groups) When lions are babies they can't roar. When they're teenagers they can roar. A lion's roar can be heard five miles away. If there is no danger the male lion lies around. Like other cats, lions carry their cubs in their teeth.

BEHAVIOR:

Often when they meet they rub their heads together in a friendly way. Lions in a pride usually are very friendly. Sometimes when a mom goes to hunt another mom takes care of that mom's baby.

FOOD:

When their usual prey is hard to find, they eat most unusual food. Lions can eat porcupines, fish, snakes, turtles, locustss, termites, peanuts, fruit and even rotten wood. Lions miss more of their food than catch it.

*

TERRITORY:

Males fight to be leader of the pride. The male lion guards the territory. Each pride has its own territory. The main job of the lion is to guard the territory. Older males are thrown out of the pride and replaced by a younger male. A pride of lions have 4 to 30 animals.
