Gnu
by Liana
The animal that I researched is the wildebeest. Another name for the wildebeest is gnu pronouced as "new". The gnu is higher at the shoulders and lower at the rump. White tailed gnu are extinct in the wild. The gnu herds are almost always moving to different places. When the gnu are running they toss their heads and snort. A few minutes after the calves are born, they can run very fast. Gnu mostly eat grass. Gnu live on the open plains. The males live with their own family. The gnu's baby follows his mother until it is old enough to have it's own family. The gnu gives birth at 3 years. One calf is born. The calves are very different from the adults. The height of a gnu is 1-13 metres. The gnu is dark brown. It has long black tufts on its nostrils. The gnu has black mane, and the color can also be silvery gray.
