The Jackal

My animal is the jackal. The jackal's weight is about 6 to 10 kg and it's height is about 45 to 50 cm.The jackal looks like a red wolf and has a reddish-brownish coat of fur.It an omnivore. It eats little mammals like rodents and also eats bird, insects, berries and carrion, which is left over kill. Its a scavenger but before it eats carrion it nurses on it's mother's milk. The jackal lives on the savannah and in forests. It nests in burrows or anything available. It's nocturnal but it also active in the day. It sometimes curls in bushes and falls asleep. It may also be in a pack, family or it may be on its own. The scientific name for the black backed jackal is canis mesomelas. The scientific name for the golden jackal is canis aureus. The scientific name for the side-striped jackal is canis adustus, and the scientific name is simien jackal is canis simensis. The jackal is one of the few mongomous mammals, which means it stays with it's mate all it's life. The cry of the jackal is called a pheal. Scientists say hyenas can hear it better than humans. The jackal lives 10 to 16 years in captivity and lives 13 years in the wild. Jackals are very territorial. The female jackal keeps female jackals off thier terrotory, and the male jackal keeps the male jackals of thier terrotory. The black backed jackal is also called The silver backed jackal and the saddie backed jackal.
