The Mongoose

The mongoose looks like this. It is 16 inches long and the tail is about 8 inches long they weigh 2 to3 pounds. It has a pointed face that is tan and brown and it has stripes across its back. The big mongoose is 22 inches long and the tail is 18 inches long. It weighs 11 pounds. It also has a pointed face. And it also has stripes across its back and they tan and brown. They are mammals they have a long body and a long tail. And they have short legs. The mongoose can live in many different places like Africa, savannah, forest, woodland and the desert. The mongoose travel a lot, too. There are 20 family members in all. Their family is called viverrids, guard wolves and hyenas. Some mongoose live in pairs and some live by themselves. It takes a year for a baby to be born. After a year and 8 weeks the baby is born. The baby is born in a dug-out nest. The mongoose grows quickly. They become an adult mongoose 6 months. The mother mongoose can have 10 babies at a time. The protection they have are they are really fast runners and also they are always alert and they are good haunters. The mongoose can also be faster than a reptile and can kill a snake easily . They eat insects, spiders, reptiles, fruit, snakes, beetles, small mammals and some eat frogs and crabs. The mongoose are cute and they are famous for killing venomous snakes. They haunt at night. Something that is really interesting they crack eggs open by throwing them at stones so that they could eat what’s inside. The also attack predators. The mongoose can live for 10 years.
