Tokyo by Ayumi

Where is Tokyo? Why was it built where it is?

Tokyo is on the northwest end of Tokyo Bay on the Kanto plain, Japan's largest lowland. On one side (NE) is the Edo river and on the other side is the Tama river. Edo was the first name of the city after the Edo family. In 1457 a warrior named Ota Dokan built a stone fort on a hill. The stone fort protected people from enemies and there was also a harbor for ships. Takugawa Ieyasu made it a city.
