What are some interesting facts about Tokyo?
Before Tokyo was called Edo. In 1868 the
name Edo was changed to Tokyo. In Kabuki men do a woman's job
because long ago women were not allowed on stage. Tokyo started
out as a small fishing village. It was rebuilt after the 1923
Kanto Earthquake and again after the bombing of the World War ll!
Ieyasu Takugawa built the great Edo castle and that's how it
became a city. About 10,000,000 people jam Tokyo's trains and
subways each day. "Pushers" shove 300 people into a car
only made for 100. When Tokyo was called Edo the capital of Japan
was Kyoto. Tokyo has lots of tall buildings and modern freeways
and factories and busy shopping centers.
