about Hokkaido?
Hokkaido covers about 78,073 sqare miles.
In the winter it is 30 celsius( 27 farenhight) in cold months.
Sea foods such as scallops and konbu
( kelp ) are cought in large amounts. Hokkaido's population is
5.7 million. In the summer, in Hokkaido the normal tempture is 20
celsius. Some of the world's most important fishing grounds are
found in Hokkaido. Hokkaido is the second largest island in
Japan.Hokkaido only has 5% of japan. Hokkaido only has one
prefecture. In adition to the Ishikari river, Tesho and Tokashi
river are also rivers in Hokkaido. Hokkaido contains only 5 % of
the population of Japan.Going out from the hilly hooked shaped
piece of land. Inside the hook lies Volcano Bay. To the
north-east lies the Ishikara plain. Other plains lie along the
southern and eastern coasts of the island. It is very cold frdom
Semptember to March, but in the summers are very comfortible,
unlike most of Japan. The easiest way to get to Sapporo from
Tokyo is by plane. It is a trip of 875 km. It takes about an hour
and a half, and costs about 24,000 yen (240U.S. dollars)
Sapporo's world - class sports facilties have hosted the Olympics
in the winter Asian games and the winter univeride. Hokkaido is
conected to Honshu by an under water tunnel. Sapporo is the 5th
largest city in Japan. Sapporo had the winter Olympics in 1972.
In 1868 , Ezo (now Hokkaido ) was renamed Hokkaido. There are
less than 20,000 Ainu left in Hokkaido and barly any live in
Honshu, Kyushu and Shikoku
