Iditarod

The Iditarod is a race that goes from Anchorage to Nome! This race is 9 to12 days long! You need to pack lots of supplies like a gun to shoot wild moose, some food and drinks, tents and more. There is at least 64 people in this race. You are only allowed 20 dogs and to finish you need at least 5 dogs to finish. Some of the dogs they use these days are Siberian Huskies, and Malamutes. One of the old sled dog is a Samoyed. Balto is a hero to lots of people in Nome. They had a sickness called diptheria. Balto brought the medicine to save the people. He is an unusual kind of dog. He was a half wolf and half dog. Cool huh?

Igloo

When you cut the snow you mostly use a bone knife or a saw. The shape of the Igloo is mostly spiral like a snail shell! In an Igloo, the grandpa and grandma get the warm spot because they are elders. They keep a hole in the top of the Igloo for the flames and smoke. The Inuits put down hay or something like that, so they don't have to sit on ice. First, you make a base for the Igloo and then you build up on that and use as many blocks as you want. Then they build on top and pack snow on top. That's how it works.

Inuit

The other name for Inuit is Eskimo. Inuit people know at least 49 words for snow and ice. Some Inuit groups tell lore at night or some legends. As older native speakers of these languages died, they got replaced with mostly English speaking people. When those people died they got replaced with only English speaking people. Native kids got hit with sticks and rocks, if they did not speak in English in the past.
