Tundra
There may be some trees there in the tundra, but you can't tell the difference betweem a tree and a bush because they're only about one feet tall due to the cold. The tundra is very muddy in the summer because the permafrost melts and makes mud. The tundra is where most Inuits live. The tundra is mostly flat land. In the tundra during winter, there is almost no sunlight. In the tundra, a 100 year old tree may only be 1 foot tall. The tundra is often found in northern Canada, northern Europe and northern Russia. In the tundra during spring, there are all kinds of colors from the flowers.
Tree line
The tree line is at least 2300 KM or 1429 miles from the North Pole. Beyond the tree line, there are no trees and the tundra begins. The last forest trees form the tree line. The tree line is like a border for the southern arctic. Even though the tree line is cold, there are plants beyond. The tree line isn't just one line of trees. The tree line is many miles wide. Beyond the tree line is the Arctic Circle. On the tree line, the trees are very tall then suddenly they disappear.
Temperature of the North
The temperature in November is not very high in the tundra. The sun does not come up and the temperature only goes up to 0 F (-18 C). Where the lemmings live in winter, the temperature is 20F, but where the foxes live, the temperature is only -35C. The lemmings are so snug, they have babies in the winter. In the summer the tundra is still cold. If it is above 50F(-10C)it is considered a heat wave. As the temperature goes down in the winter, the permafrost grows.
