Walrus

A female walrus gives birth to a calf every two years. The mother walrus puts the milk in its fat parts of its body during the first year the calf is born. This makes the calf grow quicker. They leave their mom when they are 3 years old. Polar bears and Killer Whales are the only enemies that walruses have. They are the only animals that can chew them up. A Polar bear must work hard to gnaw a hole in a body of a dead walrus. They scoop the insides out of the hole they chewed through. Walruses are surrounded with whiskers and they smell their food around them with their whiskers.

Whale

Whales give birth to babies called calves. Before whales have babies they go in the open waters where there are lots of food. They move to warm waters before they have their babies. Other whales never leave Arctic waters. When they are ready to have the calves they move down to the more shallow waters that are warm. Even though whales live under water, they are not fish. They are mammals. They have some hair on their body. Their body temperature doesn't change when they are in the water. Unlike fish, whales have lungs, not gills, so they can't breathe under water.

Wolf

For thousands of years people have hated wolves. People have heard that they have threatened peoples' lives. Scientists have heard that it is a misunderstood animal. A wolf will attack a person only if the wolf has rabies, it is starving or just to defend itself. Wolves are very social and affectionate animals. They nuzzle, play together and sometimes pounce on other wolves to scare pack members for fun. They mostly hunt in wilderness and avoid people. Being a predator of animals is the wolf's natural role in the food chain.
