Toucan
WHERE IT LIVES: Rain forest of Mexico, Southward through Central America into Northern and Northwestern Venezuela
WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE: It has a green and orange beak with a black body and a yellow neck. It has green and blue around its eyes. Also the toucan has a lot of body parts like their bills which they mostly use for eating fruit like the Cecropia's fruit and the Fig tree's fruit.And they also have wings that they use for flying. If there wings are broken they can't just fly with one wing they can't even fly at all so they just live their whole life in their hole in tree. An adult toucan can weigh up to about a little over a pound and 500 grams. It measures up to 18 1/2 inches. It is 47 centimeters long including it's beak.
HABITTAT: The toucan lives in the canopy layer and it nests in holes and trees in the Fig tree which is in the Amazon Brazilan rain forest.
WHAT IT EATS: It eats the Cecropia's fruit and different kinds of insects like beetles. They also eat also reptiles and sometimes they steal other bird's eggs.
SPECIAL FEATURES: The Keel Billed toucan's bill is 29 inches and it can be longer than its body. Also the Keel Billed toucans contact other toucans with their bills. They fight each other with their bills like who ever falls off the branch first is the loser.
HOW MANY EGGS IT CAN LAY: The Keel Billed toucan can lay up to about 1 to 4 eggs.The mother and father take turns watching over the eggs and and sitting on them. When the young baby toucans hatch and leave the nest they're about seven weeks old. By then they're almost as big as the mother and father.
WHAT IT USES IT'S BILL FOR: The Keel Billed toucan uses its bill mostly for nipping off fruit from the Cecropia tree's fruit and the Fig tree's fruit. The Fig tree's fruit is their favorate snack of the day. They snip off the fruit and use the tip of their bill to throw it up in the air and catch it in their mouth and swallow it in one gulp. Sometimes the toucans also fight each other with their beaks and when they start to hit each other the first one to fall off is the loser.
