The Beatles

The Beatles were a very popular music group. The lead singer, John Lennon, started the group in 1956. He liked Buddy Holly’s group, the Crickets, so he named his group the Beatles (the two groups are named after bugs). The three other people who eventually joined the group and stayed with it were Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr (his real name is Richard Starkey, but Ringo sounds better and is more catchy).
Over the course of 14 years when the Beatles performed together, they had many big hits. Their first big hit, Love Love Me Do, came out as a single in November of 1962. They composed and sang 26 more songs throughout their career.
In 1970, the Beatles split up. Some went to start their own bands or to sing as soloists. John spent many summers in Karuisawa with his wife, Yoko Ono, and their son, Sean. John was assassinated on December 8, 1983. The other Beatles are currently living in or near London, England.
