Kimono is a kind of dress that has long sleeves and an obi. An obi is a sash that is wrapped around the waist. Men and boys wear kimono that are blue or dark brown. O Shogatsu means New Year. At O Shogatsu men sometimes wear a kimono when visitors come to their house. Girls and women wear kimonos at coming of age and graduation ceremonies, wedding receptions, funeral services and for visiting shrines during O Shogatsu. Many women have three or more kimono including longer sleeved ones. Young women wear brightly colored kimono with flower or bird designs. The most fancy ones are made of silk with silver and gold thread. Older women agree and like darker shades for their kimono.
