Onis

by Sean

Onis are demons or monsters who hurt people in many stories and legends. Onis have horns and short or long hair. They have very long, sharp teeth. This all makes them scary looking. They can be any color. They steal gold in some stories. In one story they use bones to fight. The oni has two faces. One is a demon and the other is a godlike face. (It’s a protector.) Onis can be seen in many Japanese festivals. In the Japanese Setsubun, the bean throwing festival, children throw beans at oni masks to get rid of the evil spirit. Onis were considered gods in olden times, long, long ago. I think the most interesting thing abut onis that there’s more than one kind.
