Tournament Results

The Chofu City Elementary Sumo Tournament was held on Sunday, May 19. Over two hundred fifty wrestlers participated in the event including thirty-five students from ASIJ. Wrestlers, both boys and girls, ranged from kindergarten to fifth grade and were grouped into six divisions based upon birthdates. The tournament was run using single elimination matches. Ultimately, only one wrestler in each division went home undefeated, but in the end everyone was a winner for participating. Following the awards ceremony, everyone, from wrestlers to spectators were treated to a special sumo stew. A delicious ending to an exciting day of sumo wrestling.

ASIJ brought home the First Place Team plaque. Top individual place finishers include:

  • Division 2: Forty-eight wrestlers
