Elementary Sumo Club  - 1997

The American School in Japan

Several years ago, the elementary sumo club was started by faculty members who wished to share their enthusiasm for this ancient sport. Sessions for first through third grade are provided followed by sessions for fourth and fifth grade students. Students from both groups are then selected to practice for the local Japanese elementary sumo tournament. This year's tournament was held on Sunday, May 19. ASIJ wrestler's represented the school well, capturing first place in team points.
