Elementary Sumo Club

1998

The Chofu City Elementary Sumo Tournament was held on Sunday, May 18. Despite the rain, over two hundred  elementary "rikshi" crowded the dohyo to participate in the event. This  included thirty-five students from ASIJ. Wrestlers, both boys and girls, ranged from kindergarten to fifth grade and were grouped into six divisions based upon birthdates. The tournament was run using single elimination matches. Ultimately, only one wrestler in each division went home undefeated, but in the end everyone was a winner for participating.

ASIJ brought home the First Place Team plaque. Certainly a great day for all our "rikshi" who represented the school well.  Please view pictures from the day's action by clicking => Tournament Photos
