Course Parameters

Course Title:     French 3 

Grades: 9-12

Prerequisite:     French 2 (B- average minimum)

Book & materialsAllez!  Viens! (level 2) - textbook (chapters 9-11)
                               Allez!  Viens! (level 3) - textbook (chapters 2-5)

Course Description:  An intermediate course where the language is used as an effective means of communication and a tool for the discovery of another culture.

Processes

Attitudes:  Students are using French willingly in and out of the classroom.

 Applications:  Through a total immersion in the French speaking environment provided by the textbook, videos and class format, students strengthen their knowledge of the language as well as of the culture. 

Writing:  The function, grammar and vocabulary features give students the building blocks they need to enrich the writing proficiency acquired in level 2.

 Speaking/Listening:  Students understand native speakers and engage in conversations, provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions, and exchange opinions.

 Thinking Skills:  Students develop insight into different cultures and languages as well as into their own.  Students recognize that languages and cultures develop different patterns and can apply them to their own.

 Group Skills:  Students gain mutual respect and understanding when practicing pair/group activities.

 Ethics:  A high standard of intellectual honesty is stressed throughout the program as this course prepares students to play a role in a global society.
