Japanese V Course Overview

Goals and Objectives 

This course is designed to build on what Japanese language students have learned in previous years. Students will integrate complex sentence patterns, variety of language style, and cultural knowledge to communicate personal perspectives of various topics, including life, careers, communications, media, nature, and culture. A creative use of language with fluency and appropriateness will be encouraged in three modes of communication; interpersonal, interpretive and presentational communication. Use of technology is required. Students will also demonstrate cultural understanding and appreciation through various projects including participating in cultural programs.

 

Assessments

Oral/Aural skills                   45%

Conversations, discussions, presentations (skit, role play, speech), interviews, phone inquiry, TV/radio, public announcement, etc.

 

Writing/Reading skills       45%

Journal, essay, memo, questionnaire, letter, resume, ads, news, book review, articles, kanji, etc.

 

Participation and effort     10%

Homework, classroom participation, visual aids, collaborative work, research projects, etc   

 

Grade

1st Semester Grade =           1st Quarter (45%)

2nd Quarter (45%)

Semester Exam (10%)

 

2nd Semester Grade = 3rd Quarter (40%)

4th Quarter (40%)

Final Exam (20%)

 

Expectations

·              Come to class on time and be seated.

·              Participate actively using Japanese.

·              Bring a positive attitude, as well as the necessary materials you need to study.

·              Respect the learning, environment, teacher, and fellow students.

·              No chewing gum, food and drinks (except water) are allowed in the classroom.

·              Cell phones and music players should be turned off.

·              Spend at least twenty to thirty minutes a day reviewing after each lesson and/or working on homework.

·              Use the language at every opportunity outside the classroom.

·              Turn in assignments at the beginning of the class. Late assignments will receive no more than a maximum grade of 70%.

 

Extra Help

Extra help is available any time in the Modern Language Resource Center (MLRC) and/or your teacher by appointment.

 

Make-up

It is the student’s responsibility to make an arrangement for make-up work after being absent. All make-up work must be completed within two days after returning to school, unless arranged otherwise.
