Goal: To enhance your appreciation of Japanese culture and language through various learning activities.
Objectives: In this course students will:
1. review approximately 1300 basic kanji.
2. learn 350 new kanji and their compounds.
3. enlarge vocabulary and improve reading skills.
4. improve comprehension skill on various types of reading material.
5. improve writing skills through writing essays, summaries, and reports.
6. produce various documents using word processor.
7. improve speech and presentation skills.
Grading system:
1. Quizzes (kanji, vocabulary) 20%
2. Written Assignments (essays, journals, projects) 35%
3. Tests (unit tests, presentations, projects) 35%
4. Effort (participation, attitude, homework, etc.) 10%

2nd Quarter (45%)

2nd Semester Grade = 3rd Quarter (43%)

Expectations
· Come to class on time and be seated.
· Participate actively.
· Bring a positive attitude, as well as the necessary materials you need to study including completed assignments, textbook, workbook, notebook pencils and eraser.
· Respect the learning, environment, teacher, and fellow students.
· No chewing gum, food and drinks (except water) are allowed in the classroom.
· Cell phones and music players should be turned off.
· Spend at least twenty to thirty minutes a day on homework or studying for quizzes and tests.
· Turn in assignments at the beginning of the class. Late assignments will receive no more than a maximum grade of 70%.
Extra Help
Extra help is available any time in the Modern Language Resource Center (MLRC) and/or your teacher by appointment.
Make-up
It is the student’s responsibility to make an arrangement for make-up work after being absent. All make-up work must be completed within two days after returning to school, unless arranged otherwise.
