CURRICULUM AND OBJECTIVES
l
Provide instruction to any student who would like to learn to play a band
instrument
l Reach a level of
proficiency which would allow the student to play in one of the concert bands
l Offer students
the opportunity to learn to play an additional instrument
l Understand
musical theory and vocabulary
l Develop
self-discipline, group responsibility, and cooperation
l Enhance critical
listening and appreciation
l Encourage the use
of music for the enrichment of life
l Provide
opportunities to enhance self esteem
l Become aware of
vocational and avocational opportunities in music and related fields
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
GRADES will be based on the following items:
l
amount of progress by each individual
l
attitude in class
l
evidence of practice time being utilized properly
l
being prepared for each class with instrument, music and a pencil
l
practice records
l
good tone quality
l
good posture
l
correct hand position
l
embouchure
l
articulation skills
l
playing and written tests
CLASSROOM GUIDELINES
l
bring your instrument, music and a pencil to every class
l be
warmed-up and prepared for the start of rehearsal
l
respect your fellow musicians
l
only use instruments on which you have been approved
l
communicate with the teacher if you have a special need or problem
Parents can help their musicians by encouraging them to practice and
providing them an opportunity and place to do so. Practice rooms are available
at school and are open before, during, and after school. Practice records are to
be signed each week by parents and are due on the date indicated on each
practice record.
