About the Free-Response Section:
This section includes
Two thematic essay questions on two major topics out of a choice of six; the essays are in two groups, and you must choose one from each group. (70 minutes for both essays)
A 15-minute required reading period for analyzing the documents in the DBQ, for outlining the answer, and if time allows, for looking over the thematic essay choices.
One document-based essay (DBQ) which uses historical sources to measure the ability to work with evidence. (45 minutes)
