Mashiko Pottery
Mashiko
Mashiko village is a lovely mountain town known for its unique pottery tradition. We stay in a traditional Japanese minshuku with a pottery workshop on sight. This is your chance to learn about traditional Japanese pottery techniques, clay, and glazes by a renowned potter from the area and to have a hands on experience with the materials in the workshop. We also visit the Hamada Museum. Shoji Hamada is a National Treasure because of his influences on Japanese Folk Pottery. There will be time to make pottery, shop and go to an Onsen as well as view the hundreds of shops and galleries in Mashiko village. This is a trip for both the pottery enthusiast and for new learners interested in Japanese crafts and culture.
