Tradition and the Future

This trip gave an insight into an array of interesting aspects of Japan. It combined sightseeing and hands-on activities with nature and technology, the old and the new. We visited the amazing Shinshoji temple that has a special place in the hearts of many Japanese people and an ancient royal burial site that originates from the 4th century containing what people needed to take with them for the afterlife. Next we experienced hands-on activities at a historical craft village. After a delicious buffet dinner at the Hotel Mikazuki, the evening was spent relaxing in the hot springs; the hotel boasts that it has 100: coffee-scented, herb-scented, with swimsuit or without swimsuit, you had plenty of choices. We hiked in the beautiful hills surrounding Nihon temple and viewed the 1,558 Buddha statues along the trail, visited a mikan farm where we picked a fruit that is a favorite here in Japan, and ate them! Finally, we visited Fujitsu Dome Theater to learn about lazar technology and experienced the amazing 3D motion picture.
