The senior stone tradition started in 1959, when the student court was remodeled from being just a plain grass field. Originally, the school bought a stone from the Tamabochi cemetery, and the student responsible designed it and had the stone carver work on it. Now, the student makes it out of ceramic, starting with a slab of clay, designing it and firing it. These stones stand as the stepping stones for the seniors towards the future.
