The week's events were topped off by a Poetry Party in the HS library!

Through the generosity of the PTA, the ASIJ Middle School Library was able to invite YA author/poet
Mel Glenn, a longtime English teacher and author of novels in poetry, poems, short stories, children's stories and essays for educators, to visit ASIJ from April 13th - April 16th.

Mr. Glenn addressed several groups of middle school students and also conducted poetry workshops in classrooms in both the middle school and the high school.

On Thursday, April 15th, Mr. Glenn traveled to the ELC
in Roppongi to speak to a combined PAC meeting on
"Finding Your Creative Voice"

MS and HS students recited poetry, including the prologue to Romeo and Juliet and Lewis Carroll's "Jabberwocky," as well as original compositions. Some students read poems they had written during Mr. Glenn's workshop. Together with Mr. Glenn, HS students presented a Reader's Theater performance of a portion of Mel Glenn's award-winning novel, Jump Ball. The party also featured performances by
professional Tokyo Rappers SoulJa and 3EL.

There is a video of the party available for checkout in the HS Library.
