Kijimadaiko: Dressing up for the Winter Ball
Kijimadaiko is a youth taiko group (ages 10-16) from Kijimadaira in Nagano Prefecture. In October 2003 they won the Odaiko competition in the Second Tokyo International Wadaiko Contest. They also performed in the opening ceremony of the 1998 Nagano Olympics.
Every year students from ASIJ visit Kijimadaira on JUMP and receive taiko training from the girls of Kijimadaiko. On Feb. 7th, Kijimadaiko performed at the Chofu Bunka Kaikan after which they attended a party in the Main Library at ASIJ. All the members of the group stayed overnight with ASIJ families and the older members also attended the Winter Ball.
Kijimadaiko will return to perform for the ASIJ community in October, 2004.
