FOLKTALES ON THE JAPANESE INTERNET

The Japanese internet contains many, many sites that lead to towns around Japan that are trying to preserve the tales that have originated in their communities.  These tales, not found in books, are different from the average folklore/folktales that you are used to in that they often discuss the origin of objects, places or place names that still exist.  Nonetheless, these are folktales (stories handed down for many generations) that have a basis in fact with perhaps a little fiction and superstition thrown in over time.
