Harris Libraries Collection Maintenance Policy

Weeding of library materials is essential for the maintenance of an efficient, up-to-date, and vital collection that meets the needs of the ASIJ community and the curriculum.

Materials are weeded by the librarians according to the following criteria:

	educational significance
	contribution the subject matter makes to the curriculum and to the interests of the students
	validity, currency, and appropriateness of material
	timeliness or permanence
	condition

Materials are disposed of by:

	Giving them to faculty or students for individual use
	Donating them to other libraries or organizations
	Book sales
	Recycling

If none of the above apply, the materials may be thrown out.
