Picture on the way!

Peter Durfee ('88) came to Japan in 1985. After graduating from ASIJ he went to the University of California at Berkeley, where he majored in Japanese.

In 1993 he returned to Japan to work in Nasu, Tochigi Prefecture, as an assistant English teacher in the school system. He translated a book of local folktales for the Nasu Town Board of Education, Folktales of Nasu  (available in the ASIJ Main Library).

In 1996 he moved back to Tokyo (to Bochi, of course) and began working for publisher Japan Echo Inc. He has been translating and editing there ever since. He also teaches translation at a language school in Tokyo and does freelance work when he finds the time; in 2004 he found enough time to translate Dr. Noguchi's Journey, a biography of Noguchi Hideyo by the writer Kita Atsushi.
