    Johanna (pronounced "yo-hawna") is dedicated to bridging cultural gaps and empowering individuals to realize that their voices and their actions matter. With compassion and action, they can cross divides and help to generate the positive changes they seek to see in the world. Her activist work for SH is done as a volunteer.

Johanna spent 17 years abroad, living in Spain, India, Japan, and Venezuela. She earned her degree from Duke University, studying Comparative Area Studies and Anthropology. She has been an advisor at Duke's Study Abroad office; a drop-out prevention counselor for Hispanic children; and a tutor of English as a Second Language for Japanese speakers.

Johanna has extensive experience in the entertainment industry. She studied acting with the legendary Sanford Meisner in Los Angeles and has acted professionaly for radio, theatre, television and film. She is most often noted for her Guest Starring role as Ensign Calloway in Star Trek The Next Generation. In addition, Johanna has professional experience as a story analyst; casting director; writer; researcher; videographer, and producer.
 

Johanna continues to free-lance in all these capacities. She recently produced a talk radio program out of San Francisco entitled "Meet the Planet" and also contributed her own segment for that show. Her personal essays have been published in India Currents Magazine, Moxie Magazine, Journeywoman and a book entitled "Voices from the Garden" (Lantern Books). She has also written countless articles regarding consumer advocacy and Soy Happy for a variety of magazines and in the recent book from Erik Marcus, entitled "Meat Market" (see Talks & Media Mentions).

Johanna is now co-editing a book called "Dare To Be Fabulous" and plans to produce major events in conjunction with its publication, next year. They plan to donate a percentage of the profits toward organizations that benefit women, animals, social justice and the environment.
