Furusato: Issa's Journey Home. Wilmington, DE: Dawn Press, 1987.  A book depicting the life of  Kobayashi Issa, the well-known haiku poet  whose childhood home is not far from the author's cabin in Nagano prefecture.   

(With Tazuko Shibusawa)  The Japan Experience: Coping and Beyond.   Tokyo: The Japan Times,1989.  A guide for newcomers to Japan. 

(With Katsuyuki Yaba) Five Feet of Snow: Issa's Haiku Life. Shinano Mainichi Shimbunsha, 1994. A bilingual selection of 20 haiku for each of the four seasons, with  woodblock illustrations. Also contains a summary 
of Issa's life and a list of books about haiku. 

(With Tazuko Shibusawa) Living in  Japan : A Guide to Living, Working and  Traveling in Japan. Tuttle Publishing, 2001. A fact-filled guidebook covering all aspects of life in Japan and providing a thorough introduction to  Japanese society, culture and lifestyle.
