Originally from the UK, Matt Wilce first came to Japan as part of the UK delegation to the Kobe Urban Resort Fair in 1993 and returned a few months later as an exchange student at Sophia University. He returned to Lancaster University, founded the International Japanese Society, and graduated with a degree in history and Japanese studies. Matt then returned to Japan and taught at a public junior high school in Toyama prefecture for two years on the JET program. Having had enough of rice fields, he moved back to Tokyo in 1998 to teach at Daito Bunka University and the Metropolitan International School. Specializing in Japanese entertainment and culture, he was Editor in Chief of Eye-Ai magazine before he moved to Metropolis magazine as Editor. Now the Director of Communications at The American School in Japan, Matt continues to write about Tokyo and has written features for publications in the US, Australia and Japan. His recent work includes stories for The Rochester Review, The Lantern, Ikebana International, POL Oxygen, and JapanInc. He has also been quoted on Japanese popular culture in Details magazine and the Sydney Morning Herald. His first book, Generation Tokyo, was published in 2003.
